FortKnox Firewall is a personal firewall solution that suits the needs of both, beginners as well as experienced users. It protects a PC against hacker attacks, trojans, spyware and internet threats. The tool supports a built-in Intrusion Prevention System and SPI technologies for extended user protection.
Please note that while installing the application, FortKnox seeks user’s permission for installing ‘Spy Emergency’ software also. If you do not wish to install it, uncheck its installation option.
After the installation process is complete, restart your system and to launch the Firewall, double-click the program icon. The main interface of the application displays a list of actions a user can take to configure individual aspects.
It also shows 4 icons at the right-top corner of the program interface. These are,
Minimize – Allows you to minimize application windows to the system tray.
Maximize/Restore – Allows you to maximize application window to the maximum width and height of your desktop and restore it to the previous size.
Help – Displays help information about currently open dialog.
Information – Shows about dialog
In addition to this, you can find different settings. For instance, the ‘Statistics’ page, where you can view the activity related to your network connection.
FortKnox Free Personal Firewall
To view the connections currently established to your computer, click the Connection option visible in the left pane. Here, you can find all the connections to your computer and their related information.
For changing any of the configuration options set earlier, simply access the ‘Options’ tab and define the options.
Other important tabs include ‘Advanced’ tab. The advanced dialog displays a list of options for editing of extended application rules. These rules have more priority than application rules like,
Add rule – adds new advanced rule.
Edit Rule – edits selected advanced rule.
Remove – deletes checked advanced rules.
Blocked Domain list – this list contains used defined domains that should be blocked. To add new domain name use Add… button and to remove any of them, use Delete button.
How FortKnox Firewall works
The application mainly works by enabling process confirmation for some suspicious activities. This means users have the option to allow or deny such activity. Whenever an action is about to occur, a dialog box appears on your computer screen, prompting user to perform any of the following actions:
Yes – action will be performed.
No – action will be denied.
